1. YEN SUNG & PHOTONZ - “STILL”
5 New, Noticeable Releases
5 New, Noticeable Releases
Two of Lisbon’s finest DJs and producers, Yen Sung and Photonz have released a soulful, vocal house number called “Still” under their new label, Alphabet Street Music (named after Prince’s 1993 song ’Alphabet St’). Due to Sung’s presence in Lisbon’s house scene since the early 90s - when it was unusual to see women behind the decks - Yen Sung has not only become a spearhead for women in music, but also a pioneer in Portuguese dance music.
2. SEDEF ADASI - FANTASY ZONE
We’re definitely in our ‘fantasy zone’ when we listen to Adasi’s track ‘Gel Gidelim.’ With start-to-finish acid, melodic electro and enchanting Turkish vocals, this track certainly transports you to your dreamworld. For those who haven’t heard of Adasi, she’s a DJ and producer who’s currently based in Augsburg, Germany, and is known for her HAMAM Nights in her hometown, which has become one of the hottest parties to go to in Germany. As we’ve recently become a big fan of the Turkish DJ, we’re stoked to see that her producing skills are up to par with her DJ and mixing skills, and we’re really looking forward to hearing the rest of the EP.
3. EMMA-JEAN THACKRAY - YELLOW
After two successful albums in 2016 and 2018, the multi-instrumentalist and modern jazz figurehead, Thackray, has returned to grace us with an upcoming album, Yellow - releasing on July 2. Thackray has openly stated that the album is about togetherness, love, kindness, and human connection; and you could say, her debut single, ‘Say Something,’ encapsulates exactly that. The track blends warm grooves with acid jazz and fast instrumentals that will make you feel as if you are in a room full of people, dancing and smiling the night away! Highly recommend listening to this song if you want a pick-me-up!
4. HIATUS KAIYOTE - MOOD VALIANT
Following a six-year hiatus (apologies for the pun!), the Ozzie band are releasing a new album Mood Valiant on June 25. In the meantime, they have given a small preview into what to expect from the new album by showcasing two tracks, ‘Red Room’ and ‘Get Sun.’ From listening to the two songs, ‘Red Room’ is more of a mellow, but sinuous track, that’s cool and slick, whereas ‘Get Sun’ - which features the acclaimed Brazilian composer, Arthur Verocai - is more of an uplifting number featuring glorious strings and punchy horns (undoubtedly from the Latin American influence), layered with quintessential, soulful vocals from frontwomen, Nai. These two songs are our go-to songs on our playlist at the moment!
5. LATE NIGHT TALES: JORDAN RAKEI
Jordan Rakei has finally been chosen by Late Night Tales to be a part of their on-going series to celebrate their 20th anniversary! This compilation treats us with some amazing artists: Alfa Mist, Charlotte Day Wilson, Puma Blue, Joe Armon-Jones, Oscar Jerome, Cubicolor and many more. Rakei also offers two new songs on this album, ‘Imagination’ and ‘Lover, You Should’ve Come Over (Exclusive Jeff Buckley Cover Version),’ and features on a song with Moreton called ‘Count a Heart.’ If you’re looking for a bedtime playlist, here’s a ready-made one for you.
